He didn't have to wake up, he'd been up all night
Lying there in bed and listening to his newborn baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee, he splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss and says it's gonna be okay
It won't be like this for long
One day we'll look back laughing at the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by, so baby just hold on
It won't be like this for long
Life with a newborn isn't always easy. Riley has her days and nights mixed up and since my husband has went back to work, it has been hard to adjust. I take most of the night time shifts since he has to go and be at work all day and I don't always have a chance to catch up at night since I have two other girls that DON'T have their sleep schedules out of whack, they need a mom that's awake when they are. We have also had lots of company during the daytime so it's not always easy for me to sneak in a nap even with the girls in school. We have tried all kinds of things like taking her outside when it has been warm and pretty to try to wake her up and keep her that way..(didn't work) We have tried baths before bedtime, thinking it would wear her out..(didn't work) We have tried putting her to sleep in her bed, her bouncy seat and in our arms to no avail. It seems like around 11pm, she wakes up and is that way until usually around 4:30am. Then its time to lay her down and me get into bed until the alarm goes off @ 6am to get the bigger girls up and ready for school. I was really at my wit's end last night and my husband said to me "It won't be like this for long, kinda like the song we have heard before". When he said that I almost had to smile and laugh to myself, because it made perfect sense. It won't be long and the sleeping schedule will fix itself and we will look back on these weeks and realize that we made it. She will be in school before we know it and we will look back on this time and regret wishing it away just to have her little again. Just a reminder that "It won't be like this for long."
Emma fell off her bike today while riding after school. She has a scrape on her arm and hit her head on the bike's tire. She came in and cried for what seemed like forever. I sat down and explained to her that scrapes and bruises come with riding a bike and she probably had more to come but that was OK, because one day she would look back and realize that sticking to something even though its tough will make it all worth it someday. Right now riding a bike is the big adventure she is embarking on, before we know it, it will be driving a car so as much as the scrapes and bruises might hurt, I have to remember that this will pass far more quickly than we realize. Another reminder that "It won't be like this for long."
